Coal, PRB, Powder River Basin
|About the American Coal Users' Group|
The American Coal Users’ Group (formerly the PRB Coal Users' Group) focuses on sharing better practices promoting the safe, efficient, and responsible use of coal for producers, ports, terminals, generators, transporters and industrial users.
The ACUG provides value to our members by providing resources to members that will encourage safety, reliability, education, innovation, awareness, and a sense of community as it relates to the use of coal. Established for 20+ years as the PRB Coal Users’ Group, these efforts are led by a team of experts from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, dedicated to its success.
To help meet their mission, the board of directors has elected to address key issues and to exchange experiences—especially in the area of safety. Over the past 20 years they have hosted an annual meeting co-located with the ELECTRIC POWER Conference and Exhibition where candid discussion is encouraged.
The Users’ Group also develops a series of recommended better practices to encourage maximum safety when utilizing this valuable low-sulfur fuel. Members are provided with a list of power plants consuming sub bituminous coal, annual consumption statistics, conference papers from past meetings, an industry on-line discussion forum, and other services. Suppliers to the industry are encouraged to support the group through corporate membership options and receive recognition on the website, in print, and during the annual meeting.
Safety & Health – We recognize that those who work in coal-related industries face many on-the-job hazards. We will be a critical resource that will help them safely perform their jobs so they can return safe and healthy to their home and families each day.
Reliability - Coal producers, transporters and consumers require reliable availability and use of this valuable commodity. We will improve reliability through the creation, sharing and implementation of industry-preferred practices.
Education – Our efforts to educate begin with the fundamentals of coal, its handling and ultimately its consumption.
Innovation – We are not content with the status quo. Leveraging the coal industry’s vast experience, we look for new technologies and methods to share that improve ways to safely and reliably utilize coal.
Awareness – We support efforts to raise awareness to coal users and the general public in elevating the benefits of the safe and efficient use of coal.
Community – Our goal is to bring together all users of coal through forums, conferences, networking and educational summits to strengthen and support the coal industry now and in the future.
